We stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach resort which had an adult section and a kid section. The resort was huge with a golf course, water park, shopping, tons of restaurants, the whole nine yards. The kid section seemed to be the more updated side and had more amenities than the adult section.
For the first few days, everyone was pretty tame because it was still before the wedding, so we didn't want to have any accidents and the bride was careful not to get sun burned. The wedding was held at a lovely restaurant called Jellyfish. It seemed like everything was taken care of quite nicely. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the beach ceremony was perfect with the exception of a little bit of rain. Everyone was having a great time and we were so happy to see the couple get married! Congrats!
The next morning we had booked an excursion to take the catamaran to another beach and enjoy some time in the natural pool which was an area in the ocean where the water is only one meter deep. The catamaran ride was very nice. Our group had the entire boat to ourselves because there were so many of us. Little did we know what was ahead of us...
What was ahead of us was what I would call the poor man's beach. It was a beach full of mosquitos. The sand was coarse, the BBQed food was questionable, and there were locals coming around to try to give you massages, which we declined. There was a guy selling hot coconuts that weren't even sweet!
We totally got tricked into this one and we had to stay there for two hours until they finally shipped us off to the natural pool. The natural pool was much better. The sand was soft to the feet and there were starfishes all around.
Luckily, our second excursion of the trip was more redeemable. We had an opportunity to drive own on speedboats! This was the highlight of the trip for us. We also did snorkeling and snuba-diving, where the you are attached to a tube connected to an oxygen tank above water rather than having to carry the tank with you. We were able to see lots of fish and coral. It was lots of fun.
The food on this trip wasn't really anything to write home about, so I won't bother with those pictures. I'm hyped and ready for our honeymoon part 3 in October - Europe!!
